Breed boarding guides
Each breed guide from Happy Paws explains which kennel class usually fits the breed, what to know about its coat and the summer heat, and how much exercise it tends to want. Kennel classes run $52, $59 and $72 a night for one dog on the 2026 rate sheet.

Cats
Dogs board as individuals, not as breeds, but breed does tell you a lot: size for the run, coat for the Central Valley summer, energy for the yard. These guides gather that in one place.
How the guides are organized
Start with a size or coat group if you are not sure of your dog's breed: small dogs, medium dogs, large dogs and giant dogs. Coat and build groups cover double-coated dogs, short-coated dogs, flat-faced dogs in the heat and working and sporting dogs. Individual guides follow for popular breeds like the Labrador Retriever, French Bulldog and German Shepherd, and for popular mixes.
Which kennel class a breed usually needs
The three kennel classes are Economy (4x4 ft inside, $52 a night), Business Class (5x6 ft, $59) and First Class (6x8 ft, $72). Small and medium dogs are usually comfortable in Economy, a pair of large dogs or a large dog who does not like to share suits Business Class, and extra large dogs or two or three large dogs suit First Class. The kennel class finder asks about your dog and suggests a class.
Coat, heat and baths
Dixon summers are hot, and each breed handles that differently. Every run is heated in winter and air-conditioned in summer, and dogs choose inside or out through a doggie door. Baths for boarders are priced by size, coat type and length; please ask. The bath chart shows the 2024 chart.
Mixed breeds and unknowns
Mixes are welcome, like every breed. If your dog is a rescue and the breed is a guess, size and coat are what matter, so use the size groups. Cats have their own pages on the cat breeds hub.

Questions people ask
Still have a question? Call 707-678-6600 (every day 7:30-11:30 AM and 2-5 PM) or see the boarding FAQ.
Does Happy Paws accept every breed?
Yes. The kennel accepts all breeds of dogs and cats, neutered or intact, that meet the vaccine and health requirements.
Does breed change the price?
No. The 2026 rate sheet prices the kennel class, not the breed.
Which run suits a Labrador?
A Labrador is a large dog. Economy at $52 fits one large dog, and Business Class at $59 or First Class at $72 gives more room. The Labrador guide has details.
