A Poodle's curly, low-shedding coat looks easy, but it mats if it is not brushed. Our job during the stay is the dog's comfort, not styling.
Three sizes, three plans
AKC lists toy Poodles at no more than 10 inches and 4 to 6 pounds, miniatures at 10 to 15 inches and 10 to 15 pounds, and standards at over 15 inches and about 40 to 70 pounds. Toys and miniatures are comfortable in Economy, with two from one home sharing for $52 plus $44. A standard gets Business Class, 5x6 ft.
Curly coat and the bath chart
AKC scores Poodle shedding at 1 of 5, the lowest rating. The hair keeps growing instead, and it tangles at the skin if left alone. On the bath chart effective January 1, 2024, a dog at 15 pounds or less in the Medium column is $30, a standard at 26 to 50 pounds is $45 and at 51 to 75 pounds is $50. Please ask to confirm, because coat length changes the column.
Smart and active
AKC rates the breed's energy at 4 of 5 and points to the Poodle's origins as a water retriever. Standard Poodles in particular want to run and fetch. A fenced play area and a grass field suit that, and a smart dog does well with a new routine once it knows the staff.
Summer and winter
A clipped Poodle in a Dixon July is comfortable on the cool side of the run. In the winter, a dog with a short summer clip can be glad of the heated run and the blankets. Tell us how your dog is clipped.
Matting and stays of a week or more
A long stay is when a curly coat shows its trouble: wet beards, damp ears and tangles behind the legs. A bath near the end of the stay is the practical answer, and it is priced by size and coat on the 2024 chart. Stays of 14 nights or more get the reduced nightly rate, $52 for a toy or miniature in Economy becomes $47 and $59 for a standard in Business Class becomes $53.
Day care for a smart dog
Poodles are quick learners who like company. If your dog is used to being busy, the dog day care is $38 a day, with an hourly option, and packages for regular visits.
