The AKC calls the Redbone even-tempered, mellow and kindly at home but a tiger on the trail, alternating vigorous activity such as hunting and swimming with long rests. The pattern fits a boarding stay well.
Smaller than a Black and Tan
A Black and Tan Coonhound weighs 65 to 110 pounds. A Redbone tops out at 70, so no Redbone reaches the 76 to 100 row. Males stand 22 to 27 inches and females 21 to 26. Business Class gives about 30 square feet inside plus 60 outside. A lighter female could use Economy ($52).
Short coat, simple bath
The AKC lists a short, smooth coat with seasonal shedding. A 45 to 50 pound Redbone is in the 26 to 50 row ($40 Short), and a 51 to 70 pound dog is in the next ($45). Please ask to confirm the price.
Mellow home, active trail
The AKC pairs long rest with vigorous exercise. The large fenced play areas and the grass field serve the activity, walks are included, and the Kuranda bed serves the rest. The AKC rates barking as a dog that likes to be vocal.
Heat
A short coat does not hold much heat, but an active hound still needs shade. NOAA's Vacaville station records about 100 days a year at 90 degrees or more. The runs are air-conditioned in summer, heated in winter, and the doggie door lets your dog choose.
Cost and records
Six nights in Business Class is 6 x $59 on the 2026 rates, and a stay of 14 nights or more is $53 a night. Rabies, distemper/parvo, Bordetella and canine influenza must be current. Medications are given at no extra charge.
Booking
Tours run every day from 9 to 11 AM and 2 to 4 PM with no appointment. Online booking is a request that the kennel confirms. Leave your hound in the car at check-in while staff carry the bag.
