The Griff is called the supreme gundog, and the AKC says its handsome looks come from ruggedness rather than fussy care.
A medium gundog with a wiry coat
Griffs run 35 to 70 pounds, with males taller than females. Business Class at $59 a night suits a male; a female can use Economy at $52. The AKC lists good-with-children and dogs-with-supervision, so two Griffs from one home can share.
Coat and baths
The AKC describes an extremely harsh and bristly coat, medium length, wiry and double, shedding seasonally. The breed is known for low shedding. On the bath chart effective January 1, 2024, the medium column is $45 at 26 to 50 pounds and $50 at 51 to 75. Please ask to confirm.
Outgoing, eager and quick-witted
The AKC calls Griffs outgoing, eager and loving at home and incomparable in the field. A field dog like this does best with walking time, so the included walks and the grass field are the heart of a Griff's stay. Mention any cue words your dog responds to on the boarding agreement.
Heat, cold and the run
A wire coat is more weatherproof than insulating, but a gundog will work through the heat if allowed. Air-conditioned inside space lets a Griff cool down. Keep exercise to the cooler hours.
Field dog, kennel stay
Griffs are happiest with a job. The grass field, fenced play areas and daily walks are the closest the kennel gets to a field day, and an additional picture play session is $14.99 per kennel. Note the commands your dog knows on the boarding agreement.
Sharing and costs
A male Griff in Business Class is $59 a night, and a female in Economy is $52. Two from one home sharing Business Class pay $59 and $50. From 14 nights the rate drops to $53 in Business Class.
