Two coat types come from one litter: the hairless, with a crest, socks and plume, and the powderpuff, fully coated. AKC notes the spotted pink skin and calls the breed frolicsome and ultra-affectionate.
Hairless or powderpuff
Choose the cell by the dog in front of you. A hairless Crested reads as Extra Short, $20 at 15 pounds or less; a powderpuff with a long silky coat is closer to Medium ($30) or Extra Long ($35). Please ask to confirm the cell when you book.
Small run, soft bed
Economy has about 16 square feet inside and 48 outside, and every run has a Kuranda bed and blankets. A slender 10 pounder lives easily there. A Crested who likes to burrow gets a blanket to tunnel into.
Sun and skin
Bare skin warms and burns easily. Vacaville records about 100 days a year at 90 degrees or more (NOAA), so the shaded, air-conditioned inside half of the run is where a hairless dog spends the afternoon. Tell us if your dog wears sunscreen or a shirt at home.
Winter mornings
A hairless dog gets cold quickly. Runs are heated in winter, and an extra blanket helps. Bring a sweater if your dog wears one, though nothing is required.
Energy
AKC rates energy at 3 of 5. Crested are quick and light on their feet, and a short run on the grass field is enough for most. Walks are included.
Skin care and what to bring
Nothing is required but your dog. Because hairless skin can be dry or sensitive, tell us what lotion or sunscreen you use and how often, and write the routine on the form with times. A powderpuff needs no such notes, but its coat can tangle behind the ears, so mention it if yours is long. Medications are given at no extra charge, and your dog can bring one toy, though not the favorite.
Cost and records
Three nights in Economy is 3 x $52 on the 2026 rates, and a second small dog from your home is $44. Records for rabies, distemper/parvo, Bordetella and canine influenza must be good through the last day. Request a stay or call 707-678-6600.
