Sammies were bred for the Siberian cold, and the AKC says that coat is built for minus 60 degrees. Dixon in summer is a very different place.
Coat first, then kennel
A Samoyed of 35 to 65 pounds fits Business Class (5x6 ft, $59 a night) well. A smaller female can use Economy at $52. The AKC says Sammies are social and need attention, so they do best with people close by.
Coat and baths
The coat is long, white and double, and the AKC characteristics list seasonal shedding. A bath helps move the loose undercoat out. On the bath chart effective January 1, 2024, the double coated column is $55 at 26 to 50 pounds and $65 at 51 to 75. Please ask to confirm.
Smart, social and mischievous
The AKC says a Sammy left alone in the yard is a miserable and destructive creature, and that these smart, social, mischievous dogs demand love and attention. A kennel stay with daily walks, neighbors at the fence and staff nearby suits that better than solitude. Say so on the boarding agreement if your Sammy has a favorite way to be greeted.
Heat, cold and the run
A coat made for minus 60 holds heat. With about 28 days a year at 100 degrees or more near Dixon, the air-conditioned side of the run matters. Your Samoyed picks inside or out through the doggie door, and in July the inside will win.
A people-loving dog away from people
The AKC says Sammies are social and need attention. A visit to the tour before booking helps you picture the stay. Tours run daily at 9 to 11 AM and 2 to 4 PM. A Sammy that bonds with staff over the first walk usually settles in; tell the desk what your dog likes to be called.
