With crisp curls, a smooth face and a topknot of long loose curls, this spaniel is easy to pick out. The AKC calls it a champion swimmer, and at Happy Paws that drive goes into the play yard instead.
Why Business Class
The AKC standard gives dogs 22 to 24 inches and 55 to 68 pounds, and bitches 21 to 23 inches and 45 to 58 pounds. That is a leggy dog but a medium-weight one. Business Class (about 30 square feet inside and 60 outside, $59 a night) lets it stand and turn without crowding. A lighter female could manage in Economy at $52 if you are watching cost.
Curls and the bath chart
The body is covered with dense, tight, crisp curls, while the face is short and smooth with long loose curls on the ears and topknot. Of the four columns on the bath chart effective January 1, 2024, Medium is the closest match: $45 for 26 to 50 pounds and $50 for 51 to 75. The chart goes by weight and coat length, so please ask the staff to confirm the cell for your dog, especially if the coat has grown out.
Water dog energy
A breed made to swim in cold marsh water arrives with a lot of drive. The AKC describes an alert, inquisitive dog that is hardworking in the field and playfully affectionate at home. In a kennel that means plenty of movement. Large fenced play areas, a grass field and daily walks are included in the nightly fee.
Warm weather
A coat of tight curls does not shed heat the way a short one does. The runs are air-conditioned in summer and your spaniel picks inside or outside through the doggie door. After time in the grass field, a curly-coated dog is worth a once-over for burrs and grass seed at pick-up.
Booking notes
Dogs need rabies, distemper/parvo, Bordetella and canine influenza on file, and the boarding agreement signed once. Request a stay through Book / My Account; the kennel confirms every reservation. Two spaniels from the same home share a run, with about 15 percent off the second dog.
