A big white double-coated dog is a lot of dog in every direction. The Kuvasz is large, protective and double coated, and the plan for a stay starts with the kennel's biggest runs.
Males and females differ
Dogs stand 28 to 30 inches and weigh approximately 100 to 115 pounds; bitches stand 26 to 28 inches and weigh approximately 70 to 90. A female does well in Business Class (5x6 ft, $59 a night). A male is more comfortable in First Class (6x8 ft, about 48 square feet inside plus 72 outside, $72).
A medium-coarse double coat
The standard gives a double coat of guard hair over fine undercoat, medium-coarse in texture and anywhere from straight to quite wavy, with a mane at the neck and short smooth hair on the head, ears and paws. The bath chart's last column covers it: $65 for 51 to 75 pounds, $75 for 76 to 100 and $85 over 100, effective January 1, 2024. A male near 100 pounds sits on the line between two cells, so please ask the front desk to confirm.
Heat and a white coat
The NOAA Vacaville station (1991-2020 normals) logs about 100 days a year at 90 degrees or more, and a heavy double coat makes those days harder. The runs are air-conditioned in summer. Your Kuvasz picks inside or outside through the doggie door, so it can leave the sun when it wants.
A guardian's temperament
A dog this size can be reserved with strangers, which is why staff walk each dog in from the car and carry your belongings. Tell the front desk about any dog or person your Kuvasz reacts to. If you own two dogs from the same home, they can share one run, with the second dog about 15 percent off.
