AKC describes the flashy red coat and a high-spirited dog, rollicking with children and happy to fetch tennis balls. Plan around that energy first.
Tall and lean
A setter is long-legged and narrow rather than heavy. Business Class gives about 30 square feet inside plus 60 outside, enough for one setter, and Economy can work for a smaller female if you are watching cost. Two setters from one home can share a First Class run, $72 plus $61.
Feathers and bath
The coat is silky and medium length, with feathering on the ears, legs, chest and tail that picks up burrs and mud. At 51 to 75 pounds the chart reads $50 for a Medium coat. AKC puts shedding at 3 of 5. Please ask to confirm.
The energy question
AKC rates energy at 5 of 5. A setter wants to run, and the large fenced play areas and the grass field fit. Walks are included in the nightly rate. A dog like this usually sleeps hard after a stay.
Heat
A dense red coat holds heat. The NOAA Vacaville normals show about 100 days a year at 90 degrees or more, so the air-conditioned inside half of the run is where an active setter cools down.
Food
Setters are often fed measured amounts to stay lean. Send your food in the original bag with the amount in cups, or use the house grain-free kibble at no charge. Medications are given at no extra charge.
A tour before the first stay
Setters are friendly and tend to greet everyone, but a new place can be exciting for a dog this lively. Tours run every day, 9 to 11 AM and 2 to 4 PM, no appointment, and a staff member walks with you. See the Business Class run, the play areas and the grass field, and ask any question about your dog. Check-out is by 11:30 AM; an afternoon pick-up is half of the nightly fee, which suits a setter who arrives before noon after a long drive.
Booking
A week is 7 x $59 on the 2026 rates, and 14 nights or more is $53 a night. Request a stay online or call 707-678-6600; the kennel confirms every reservation.
