The AKC describes the German Pinscher as sleek, no-frills, energetic and super-intelligent, one of Germany's oldest breeds, originally a rat catcher. A clever, wiry dog does best with plenty to look at.
Economy or Business
Most German Pinschers land between 25 and 45 pounds, and 17 to 20 inches tall. Economy gives about 16 square feet inside plus 48 outside. A big male who likes to turn around in comfort can choose Business Class, about 30 plus 60. A pair from one home can share Economy for $52 and $44.
Smooth coat, short column
The AKC lists a short, smooth coat with occasional shedding. A 25 pound dog is at the end of the 16 to 25 row ($35 Short); most are in the 26 to 50 row ($40 Short). A very sleek coat may be priced in the Extra Short column, $30 and $35 in those rows. Please ask to confirm.
Intelligence needs a job
An energetic dog with a quick mind notices every gate latch and every dog in the next run. The AKC rates barking as medium. Walks are included in every stay, and the large fenced play areas and the grass field offer room to run.
Thin coat, hot summers
A smooth coat has little insulation. The runs are heated in winter, with blankets and a Kuranda bed in every run. In summer, NOAA's Vacaville station records about 100 days a year at 90 degrees or more, and the air-conditioned inside half is the place for the afternoon.
Cost and records
Four nights in Economy is 4 x $52 on the 2026 rates, and at 14 nights or more the rate is $47. Rabies, distemper/parvo, Bordetella and canine influenza must be current through the last day. Medications are given at no extra charge. A tour is free every day from 9 to 11 AM and 2 to 4 PM.
Check-in day
Leave your dog in the car at check-in and let staff carry your bag and walk your dog in. Remove any prong or choke collar, and bring one toy that is not the favorite. House food is free, or bring your own in its original bag with the amount in cups.
