Two coats share one breed: the rough, wiry coat that gives the Griffon its beard, and the smooth coat. With a short muzzle, heat is the first thing to plan.
Rough or smooth sets the cell
AKC lists double, smooth and wiry coats in short to medium length. A smooth Griffon is $25 at 15 pounds or less, a rough one $30. Both are in the top row of the chart because of weight. Please ask to confirm.
Short muzzle, summer heat
Flat-faced dogs cool themselves poorly. The NOAA Vacaville normals show about 100 days a year at 90 degrees or more, which makes the air-conditioned inside half of the run important for a Griffon. Our flat-faced dog guide goes through the signs of heat stress.
Fitting a toy dog
Economy is about 16 square feet inside, with a Kuranda bed and blankets. A pair of Griffons from one home share for $52 plus $44. The doggie door lets a small dog decide when to be outside.
Energy and personality
Energy is 3 of 5. Griffons are alert and attached to their person, and a note about favorite games or fears helps staff settle a dog who sticks close. Walks are included and short.
Shedding
AKC rates shedding at 3 of 5. The rough coat is usually hand stripped by its owner rather than clipped, so say how yours is kept.
Settling a sensitive dog
Griffons bond closely and can worry when their person leaves. Write on the form what calms yours: a spot to sleep, a toy, a favorite treat. The house menu includes treats, farm-fresh eggs and hot dogs, and your own food is welcome in its original bag with cups written down. Tours run every day, 9 to 11 AM and 2 to 4 PM, with no appointment, if you want to see the Economy runs before the stay.
Cost and booking
Three nights in Economy is 3 x $52 on the 2026 rates, and 14 nights or more is $47. Records for rabies, distemper/parvo, Bordetella and canine influenza must be good through the last day. Request a stay or call 707-678-6600.
