If you have read about the Bernese Mountain Dog, forget the long coat and the 100 pounds. The Entlebucher is the compact, muscular cousin: a tricolor herder that is built for agility rather than bulk.
Which kennel
Dogs measure 17.5 to 20.5 inches and about 50 to 65 pounds, bitches 16.5 to 19.5 inches and about 40 to 55. A female at 40 to 50 pounds is comfortable in Economy (4x4 ft, $52 a night). A male near 65 pounds does better in Business Class (5x6 ft, about 30 square feet inside plus 60 outside, $59), because a strongly muscled dog turns often.
Short topcoat, dense undercoat
The standard calls for a double coat with a short, close-fitting, harsh and shiny topcoat over a dense undercoat. A single coat is a disqualification. The bath chart reads that as a double coat: $55 for 26 to 50 pounds and $65 for 51 to 75 on the chart effective January 1, 2024. The short outer layer dries faster than a Bernese coat, but please ask the staff to confirm the cell for your dog.
Built to work
The standard describes a strongly muscled, agile dog. Expect a dog with a lot of drive and a need to move. The large fenced play areas and the grass field provide room, and walks are included. A herding dog may try to nudge or circle other dogs, which is another reason the runs have their own space with a fence between neighbors.
How it handles the weather
A short double coat holds more heat than a single one. The runs are air-conditioned in summer, and the dog can choose inside or outside through the doggie door. In winter the runs are heated.
Before you book
