The AKC calls the breed bright, loving and willing to please, spaniels first and pampered lapdogs second. At nine inches tall, he is one of the smallest dogs who boards here.
Smaller than a Cavalier
A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel weighs 13 to 18 pounds. An English Toy tops out at 14, so the bath row is a single one and the kennel is always Economy: about 16 square feet inside plus 48 outside, a Kuranda bed and blankets. Two from one home share for $52 and $44.
Silky double coat
The AKC lists a medium, silky double coat with seasonal shedding. In the 15 pounds or less row the Short column is $25, Medium is $30 and Extra Long or Double Coated is $35. A silky coat usually reads as Medium. Please ask to confirm.
Companion first
The AKC says this breed was made to be a companion, so time away from people is the hard part. Bring a toy that is not the favorite, leave your dog in the car at check-in and let staff carry the bag. Walks are included, and the grass field is a short outing for little legs.
Heat
Toy dogs are delicate in summer. NOAA's Vacaville station records about 100 days a year at 90 degrees or more. The runs are air-conditioned in summer, and your dog chooses inside or out through the doggie door. In winter the runs are heated.
Costs and records
A five-night stay in Economy is 5 x $52 on the 2026 rates; at 14 nights or more it is $47 a night. Medications are given at no extra charge. Rabies, distemper/parvo, Bordetella and canine influenza must be current through the last day.
A tour is free and needs no appointment, every day from 9 to 11 AM and 2 to 4 PM, and a staff member walks with you. Owners of small dogs often like to see the Kuranda beds and the heated winter runs before they book.
