This is the AKC name for the terrier many people call a Jack Russell, and the page shows how the coat, not the size, picks the bath cell. AKC calls the Russell an eager, tireless working terrier, upbeat, lively, inquisitive and friendly.
Why the coat decides the cell
The AKC lists smooth and wiry coats, both short. Smooth reads as Short on the chart ($25 at 15 pounds or less); a rough or broken coat is closer to Medium ($30). Everything under 15 pounds sits in the top row, so the only question is the coat. Please ask to confirm.
A small dog in an Economy run

Energy
AKC puts energy at 5 of 5. A Russell can run a field all day and then ask for more, so the large fenced play areas and the grass field earn their keep. Walks are included. Some Russells dig for fun, and the outside half of the run is built for that.
Heat and cold
A short smooth coat gives little insulation, which suits summer (NOAA records about 100 days a year at 90 degrees or more at Vacaville) but means cold winter mornings. Winter runs are heated, so a lean Russell has a warm place to curl up.

A first night for a busy dog
A Russell who has never boarded may pace the first evening. The kennel is not a house, but each run has a Kuranda bed and blankets, an inside half and an outside half, and a doggie door so the dog picks. Write on the form whether your Russell is the type to go straight to a toy or to watch the neighbors. After a night or two most settle into the routine of walks and play. Ask for a tour any day at 9 to 11 AM or 2 to 4 PM, no appointment.
