Happy Paws Kennels takes about 10 percent off the nightly dog rate for active military families, for example $65 instead of $72 in a First Class kennel on the 2026 rates. The kennel is about 30 minutes from Travis Air Force Base.

Pets and PCS travel: what the base says
- Travis AFB Veterinary Treatment Facility is staffed by Army Veterinary Corps personnel; offers routine care for pets of active duty, 100% disabled veterans and 20-year retirees; not an emergency clinic (emergencies go to a civilian hospital). All pets living on base must be registered with the VTF on arrival; on-base housing may limit number and breed of pets.
- Pets (dogs and cats only) fly only on AMC Patriot Express flights tied to PCS travel; limited to 2 pets per family (a 3rd may be requested 15 days before departure); fees by weight with kennel; contact the transportation office early. Passenger terminal 707-424-1854.

The military rate in numbers
The 2026 rate sheet lists a military price for one dog in each class: $65 in First Class, $53 in Business Class and $47 in Economy. The boarding agreement asks whether the owner is active military, so mention it when you book. The same reduced prices apply to stays of 14 nights or more, so read the military rate page and ask how the kennel applies it to your dates.

Practical details
Dogs need rabies, distemper/parvo, Bordetella and canine influenza; cats need rabies and FVRCP. Records must stay current through the last day of the stay, so for a long deployment check the expiry dates before you book. Stays longer than four weeks need a card on file, which is charged every two weeks in advance.
