The AKC calls the Welsh Springer a vigorous, medium-sized bird dog of happy disposition and one of Britain's oldest sporting breeds. Next to the English Springer it is the smaller, shorter-legged cousin, and its coat is listed as double.
Lighter than an English Springer
Welsh males stand 18 to 19 inches and weigh 40 to 55 pounds; females stand 17 to 18 and weigh 35 to 50. A female of 35 to 45 pounds is comfortable in Economy, about 16 square feet inside plus 48 outside. A male near 55 pounds does better in Business Class, about 30 plus 60. A pair from one home share Business for $59 and $50.
Medium double coat
The AKC lists a medium, double coat with seasonal shedding. A spaniel may be priced in the Medium column ($45 at 26 to 50 pounds, $50 at 51 to 75) or in the Double Coated column ($55 and $65) when the undercoat is thick. Please ask which cell fits your dog and confirm the price.
Vigorous
Vigorous is the AKC's word, and the large fenced play areas and the grass field suit a bird dog that loves to move. Walks are included. A spaniel that has run in the grass field often comes home content and a little muddy.
Heat
NOAA's Vacaville station records about 100 days a year at 90 degrees or more, and a double coat holds warmth. The runs are air-conditioned in summer, heated in winter, and your dog chooses inside or out through the doggie door.
Records and cost
Rabies, distemper/parvo, Bordetella and canine influenza must be current through the last day. Dogs must arrive free of fleas and ticks. Five nights in Economy is 5 x $52 on the 2026 rates; five nights in Business Class is 5 x $59. Medications are given at no extra charge.
