AKC calls the Basset low-slung and low-key, sometimes stubborn, always charming. It is the most relaxed breed in this guide.
Heavy but short
A Basset weighs as much as a bigger dog but is only 15 inches tall. Economy's 4x4 ft interior works for one; a heavier dog may enjoy Business Class. Two Bassets from one home share for $52 plus $44, or $59 plus $50 in Business.
Short coat, long ears
The coat is short, hard and smooth. Ears drag in bowls and on the ground, and a bath before pick-up helps. Shedding is 2 of 5 by AKC. Cell: $40 Short at 26 to 50 pounds, $45 at 51 to 75.
Low energy, big nose
AKC gives it 2 of 5 on energy, the lowest in this guide. Walks are included and short outings suit a Basset. Hounds sniff, so a leash goes on between areas.
Weight and weather
A Basset gains weight easily. Write the cups for the house food or your own. The normal July high near Dixon is about 97 degrees (NOAA, Vacaville), and a heavy low dog should rest in the air-conditioned inside half.
Ears and drool
Long ears and loose lips mean a Basset leaves water and food around its face. A bath before pick-up is a pleasure; ask for the price.
Slow walks
Bassets walk at their own speed and love to follow a scent. Walks are included and unhurried.
What a stay costs
A 5-night stay in Economy is 5 x $52 on the 2026 rates. A second dog from the same home is $44, and 14 nights or more is $47 a night; active military families pay that same reduced rate (the rate sheet does not list the two as combining; call 707-678-6600 to confirm).
Booking
Request a stay online through Book / My Account or call 707-678-6600; the kennel confirms every reservation. Check-out is by 11:30 AM, and an afternoon pick-up between 2 and 5 PM is half the nightly fee.
Costs and records
A week in Economy is 7 x $52 on the 2026 rates; 14 nights or more is $47. Rabies, distemper/parvo, Bordetella and canine influenza records must be good through the last day, and your dog should be 16 weeks or older before the first day.
