The AKC calls the Saluki one of the world's oldest breeds, a gentle, dignified, independent hound and a fast, agile sprinter. Height is what sets this dog apart from others of the same weight.
Height more than weight
A male stands 23 to 28 inches, taller than many 80 pound dogs, while weighing only 40 to 65 pounds. Business Class gives about 30 square feet inside plus 60 outside, and a long-legged dog can lie out full length on a Kuranda bed. A small female can use Economy at $52. A pair from one home share Business for $59 and $50.
Coat and the bath cell
The AKC lists a short, smooth coat with occasional shedding. A 40 to 50 pound Saluki is in the 26 to 50 row, $40 in the Short column. One of 51 to 65 pounds is in the next row, $45. A bath before pick-up is optional; please ask to confirm the price.
Sprinter, then sleeper
Salukis chase things, the AKC says, and run in bursts rather than in long jogs. The large fenced play areas and the grass field suit a short sprint, and walks are included. Between bursts, expect long rests. The AKC rates barking as medium.
Thin coat, two seasons
A smooth coat gives little insulation, so winter nights call for blankets and the heated run. In summer, NOAA's Vacaville station records about 100 days a year at 90 degrees or more, and the air-conditioned inside half is where a thin-skinned hound rests. Your Saluki chooses inside or out through the doggie door.
Records, cost and a tour
Rabies, distemper/parvo, Bordetella and canine influenza must be current through the last day. Five nights in Business Class is 5 x $59 on the 2026 rates, and 14 nights or more is $53 a night. Tours run every day from 9 to 11 AM and 2 to 4 PM with no appointment.
Check-in day
Leave your Saluki in the car at check-in; staff carry your bag and walk your dog in. Remove any prong or choke collar, and bring one toy that is not the favorite. House food is free, or bring your own in its original bag with the amount in cups, and medications are given at no extra charge.
