It is a safety rule about metal pinch (prong) collars and the chain link in the runs.
The chain link problem
Runs at Happy Paws have chain link fencing so neighboring dogs can see each other while keeping their own space. A dog wearing a collar made of metal links or prongs can snag it in the mesh while playing or going through the doggie door. Taking the collar off removes the risk.
What to do on drop-off day
Take the collar off at home or in the car, before staff arrive to walk your dog in. Keep it with you or in the bag of belongings you are leaving. Mark the collar if you leave it, because the agreement says the kennel is not responsible for lost items.
- Remove the metal pinch collar before you leave home or while parked.
- Keep your dog in the car until a staff member comes out.
- Hand over food, medication and belongings.
A rule for all dogs
The same request applies to every dog whatever the breed or size. Large and strong dogs get the same safety rule as small ones. Read the longer guide to prong collars and kennels for the full picture.
Other gear
A slow-feeder bowl is welcome, and leashes are provided. Check the what to bring list for the rest.
Handing your dog over
Think of drop-off as a clean hand-off. Your dog arrives with a leash, a collar that is safe to wear in a run, and a bag of food and belongings that staff carry in. Anything metal that can hook on a fence stays with you. The things-to-know page asks for this at every check-in, so make it part of your packing routine along with vaccine records.
