The cattery is temperature controlled too.
Inside and outside
Each run has an indoor room and an outdoor area, connected by a doggie door. A dog can nap in climate-controlled comfort or go out to watch the neighbors through the fence without anyone leashing it. Reviewers mention the freedom to go in and out as a reason they chose Happy Paws.
The 2022 building
The kennel building that opened on October 5, 2022 has 25 doggie doors on each side, HVAC, epoxy floors and fire sprinklers. The original building from 1971 hosts the Economy runs. See our second kennel building for how it was built.
Summer and winter in Dixon
Summers in the Sacramento Valley are hot and winter nights are cold, so climate control matters. Raised Kuranda beds and blankets in every run add comfort year-round. See Dixon heat and cold for dogs for monthly norms.
What about the cattery?
Cats stay in individual four-level towers, each with its own litter box and blanket, in a temperature-controlled room. Read more on the cat boarding page.
Why it matters for your dog
A dog that is too hot or too cold cannot rest, and rest is what makes a stay easy. With climate control inside and an outdoor yard just through the door, your dog picks the spot that feels right at that moment, whether that is a cool room on a hot afternoon or sunshine on a cold morning.
What to tell staff
If your dog has trouble with heat, stairs-free access or cold, mention it when you book. Senior dogs and short-nosed breeds often have preferences, and the senior dog page explains how a stay can be set up. The runs themselves are the same for every guest.
