The boarding agreement asks for this person on page one.
Who to choose
Pick someone who will have a phone on and who is not on the trip with you. A neighbor, a sibling or a friend who knows your pet works well. Tell them before you leave, so a call from a Dixon number is not a surprise.
What they may do
They may decide on your behalf and pick up your pet. The agreement also lets you list other people who are allowed to pick up, and the name of your veterinarian or clinic.
The order of calls
The kennel calls you first, then your additional contact, then the emergency contact. See what if my pet gets sick and the medical release.
If your plans change
Call if your return date moves. The agreement treats a pet that goes unclaimed for 10 days past the scheduled pick-up with no word from the owner as abandoned, and a phone call avoids that completely. Read delayed coming back.
Tell them what to expect
Give your emergency contact the kennel's number, 707-678-6600, your travel dates and a short note about your pet: age, medications, the clinic you use. Then they can answer a call from Dixon with confidence. If you change your mind about who it should be, update the paperwork in writing, because the agreement stays in effect until revoked in writing.
