What the table shows
The table lists the average monthly high and low in degrees Fahrenheit, the number of days a month with a high of 90°F or more and 100°F or more, and nights at or below freezing. July and August are the hottest, June and September are close behind, and December and January are the coldest, with about five freezing nights each. Rain and fog are not in the table.
Why it matters for dogs
Heat is the larger issue in this valley. The kennel's runs are heated in winter and air-conditioned in summer, and each dog chooses between inside and out through a doggie door. At home, hot pavement and cars are the biggest hazards on those 100°F days; read how hot is too hot for dogs and heat stroke in dogs. Flat-faced dogs have a harder time in heat, which the flat-faced dog guide covers.
Method and limits
The numbers are NOAA NCEI U.S. Climate Normals for 1991 to 2020, a thirty-year average, read on October 19, 2026 for the Vacaville station. They describe a normal year, not a forecast, and the kennel's own spot may differ by a degree or two. The Vacaville station was chosen because it is about 8 miles away. Other stations in the dataset include Davis, Winters, Fairfield and Woodland.
Using the table to plan
If your trip falls in June through September, expect a stretch of 90°F or hotter days, and tell the staff about any dog that struggles in heat. In winter, the nights fall near 40°F and a freezing night is possible between November and March. See the cold weather guide for the valley's tule fog.
