Evacuating? Emergency boarding during fires and floods

One customer wrote in 2020 that the family's home was involved in the LNU fires and Happy Paws took in their dog and cat. Stories like that are why this page exists, but every evacuation is different.

What to do first

1. Follow your evacuation order and local emergency management instructions before anything else.
2. Call 707-678-6600 during drop-off hours and describe your pets and how long you expect to be away.
3. Bring or send vaccine records: dogs need rabies, distemper/parvo, Bordetella and canine influenza; cats need rabies and FVRCP.
4. Arrive in the 7:30 to 11:30 AM or 2:00 to 5:00 PM window, with each pet in a carrier or on a leash.
5. Fill in the boarding agreement and name an emergency contact outside your area.

What Ready.gov advises

Ready.gov advises collars with ID tags, microchips with current contact details, a sturdy carrier for each pet, copies of key documents in a waterproof container and electronic form, medicine and several days of food. It also notes that many shelters and hotels do not accept pets, so pick a safe place for your pet before an emergency. Read the pet evacuation plan for Solano and Yolo families and keep it ready.

Costs and billing

Boarding is charged by the night like a hotel, at the same 2026 rates: one dog is $72 First Class, $59 Business Class or $52 Economy; one cat is $35. Pay at pick-up, or on a card kept on file every two weeks for a stay over four weeks. Stays that begin in a holiday window need the 50% deposit; call to confirm. Medications, walks and special feedings are included.

When you cannot reach the kennel

The office is closed from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM and on holidays. Try the phone again, and keep your own backup plan, such as a friend, relative or the shelter instructions your county posts. Please keep your pet's ID tags on and your phone number current.
