Family emergency or funeral travel

There is no good time for a funeral or a sudden family trip. This page is a short checklist so the pet side of the trip takes the fewest decisions.

Same-day arrangements

Calling first is the fastest route because the kennel confirms every reservation and cannot promise space ahead of time. Drop-off is 7:30 to 11:30 AM and 2:00 to 5:00 PM every day, with a 3:00 PM close on Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve and closed all day on seven holidays.

If you are already on the road, a friend or relative can bring your pet. List that person on the boarding agreement.

What to have ready

1. Vaccine records: dogs need rabies, distemper/parvo, Bordetella and canine influenza; cats need rabies and FVRCP. Upload them to the ProPetware account or email them.
2. The boarding agreement, filled in once. Ask for it by email if you cannot get to the office.
3. An emergency contact who is not traveling with you and can decide for your pet.
4. Food in its original bag, amounts written in cups, and any medication.

Open-ended dates

Funerals and care situations run longer than planned. The kennel bills by the night, so you can start with the nights you know and call as the plan changes. After 14 nights, a dog's nightly rate drops to the long-term rate. A stay beyond four weeks needs a card on file that is charged every two weeks in advance.

Costs

Five nights for one dog in an Economy kennel is 5 x $52, or $260 on the 2026 rates. In First Class it is 5 x $72, or $360. A cat is $35 a night, or $175 for five. Pick-up after 11:30 AM adds half of the nightly fee.

If holidays are involved

Emergency trips sometimes land on a holiday. A stay that begins within seven days of a major holiday carries a 50% deposit 30 days ahead, which cannot be met on short notice. Please call to discuss your dates; the deposit checker shows when the window applies.
