Ask your contractor for a realistic day count and add a night as a cushion. Dates in this trade move.

• New hardwood or tile: crews carry material through open doors for days, and finish coats need the house clear.
• Interior painting: fumes and wet walls that pets will brush against.
• Roofing or demolition: loud, and dogs and cats can bolt through a crowded entry.
• Tent fumigation: the home is closed to people and pets until the company clears it, so ask for the re-entry date in writing before you book.

Booking when the job date can slide

Because the kennel charges by the night, the stay can be shortened or extended by phone. Reservations are requests that the kennel confirms, so reserve the nights you know about and call as the schedule firms up. Drop-off runs every day, 7:30 to 11:30 AM and 2:00 to 5:00 PM, and check-out is by 11:30 AM.

A sample cost

A four-night remodel stay with one dog in a Business Class kennel is 4 x $59, or $236 on the 2026 rates. Two dogs sharing a Business Class kennel pay $59 plus $50 each night. A cat condo is $35 a night, or $140 for four. A job that runs 14 nights or more moves a dog onto the long-term rate, $53 a night in Business Class.

What a country kennel offers during a loud job

The runs are on about 10 acres near Dixon, and each dog chooses between an indoor space that is heated in winter and air-conditioned in summer and an outdoor run. Cats stay in individual four-level towers with their own litter box and blanket. Walks are included.

Before the work starts

Check that vaccines will stay current through your last day. Move your pet's own bed out of the work zone, and write feeding amounts in cups. Bring a medication list; giving medication is included in the nightly rate.
