Pet households in Solano and Yolo
If the national rate held, about 45.5% of households would have a dog and about 32.1% a cat, which puts about 3,100 Dixon households with a dog and about 2,200 with a cat. These are estimates, not counts of animals.

No agency counts pets by city, so this table does the arithmetic from two public sources and says so plainly.
- Dog households, national share45.5%
- Cat households, national share32.1%

How it was made
We took the number of households in each place from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey 2020 to 2024 five-year estimates and multiplied by the shares of U.S. households with a dog and with a cat in the American Veterinary Medical Association's 2024 data. The result is rounded. Small places carry large margins of error because the survey samples few households.
What it cannot tell you
It cannot say how many dogs or cats a place has, because households may have none or several, and local rates may differ from the national figures. It cannot say who needs boarding. Treat the table as a size comparison between places, not a market count.
Largest places
Vallejo, Fairfield, Vacaville, Davis, Woodland and West Sacramento have the most households, so the biggest estimated pet households. Dixon, the kennel's home town, has about 6,800 households. The county pages, such as Solano County and Yolo County, give more facts.
Vintage
Household counts are from the 2020 to 2024 survey period, the AVMA shares are 2024, and the table was built on October 19, 2026. A new release changes the numbers. For drive times from each place to the kennel, see the drive-time table.
