The Oriental is a Siamese without the points. That means the same brains, the same voice and the same need for people.
A Siamese relative with a sleek coat
The CFA shows Orientals in two coat lengths, with the shorthair having a short, sleek, painted-on coat. It says Orientals are as intelligent as their Siamese ancestors, fairly vocal and needy, and very people centered. One Oriental Shorthair is $35 a night on the 2026 rates, with a tower, a litter box and a blanket of its own.
Size and build
The CFA describes the Oriental as having the svelte elegance of a Siamese, with fine bones, a tubular body, a firm muscularity, a wedge-shaped head, large broad-based ears and a long whippy tail. The breed comes in over 600 color, pattern and coat-length combinations. A lean cat like this will climb to the top shelf.
Attention is the point
The CFA says withdrawing attention from an Oriental may make it pine, and that it likes to examine everything you do. For a stay, that means short is better. Cat day care at $25 is a gentle way to start. Bring a toy that is not the favorite, and expect conversation.
Coat: once a week
The CFA says most Orientals love being brushed, shed minimally and need only about a weekly brushing; a rubber curry brush works for the shorthair. A quick session before drop-off is plenty.
What a stay costs
Three nights for one Oriental is 3 x $35 = $105 on the 2026 rates. A second cat from the same home is 3 x $30 = $90. Cat day care is $25.
Paperwork and company
Rabies and FVRCP must be current through the last day. Two cats from one home can share a tower, and the second cat is $30 a night. Medications are given at no extra charge.
Drop-off and pick-up
Drop-off and pick-up are every day from 7:30 to 11:30 AM and 2:00 to 5:00 PM, with check-out by 11:30 AM. An Oriental that talks all day will be happy to see you, so a morning pick-up keeps the reunion short and sweet.
