The Burmilla began with an accidental 1981 mating of a Chinchilla Persian and a lilac Burmese, and it reached CFA championship status in 2014.
A young breed with two coats
The CFA says Burmillas come in a shorthair and a longhair variety, the longhair being a semi-longhair with a single, easy-care coat. Breed materials suggest combing at least weekly with a stainless-steel comb or small slicker brush. Because the coat is single-layered, it is simple to keep tidy before a stay.
Medium build, muscle and elegance
The CFA describes a muscular yet elegant medium-sized body, with males often about 10 pounds or more and females smaller. That size fits comfortably in a cattery tower, and the four levels give a cat that likes bursts of play followed by long naps room to do both. Nothing special is needed to prepare a Burmilla for the cattery beyond current vaccines and a familiar routine.
Fits a workday, fits a stay
The CFA says Burmillas are playful without being hyperactive, need plenty of toys and climbing options, and can be left alone during a workday. They get along with children, dogs and other cats, and strangers are often accepted quickly. For owners who only need one day covered, cat day care is $25 a day on the 2026 rates.
Pricing and routine
Overnight boarding is $35 a night for one cat and $30 for each additional cat sharing a condo, so a weekend of three nights is 3 x $35 = $105 and two weeks is 14 x $35 = $490. Each cat has its own litter box and blanket. Pick-up is 7:30 to 11:30 AM or 2:00 to 5:00 PM.
Care details
The CFA lists nail trimming, ear cleaning and dental care as part of owning a Burmilla, and says breeders test for genetic disease. Share anything your cat's vet has told you at booking. Medications are given at no extra charge, and house food is free.
