The Exotic is the Persian's easier-coated cousin. It keeps the round face and mellow nature but sheds more.
Persian type, short coat
The CFA describes the Exotic as having the body and head type of a Persian with a short plush coat, in the same colors and patterns. Its coat is dense, medium in length and stands off from the body. In the CFA, Exotics are classed with the longhairs because they are structurally identical to a Persian. One Exotic is $35 a night on the 2026 rates.
Size and build
The CFA says the Exotic standard is identical to the Persian standard apart from the coat: a short, substantial, muscular body, a round massive head and a short snub nose. The plush coat is even in length with a rich thick undercoat that helps it stand off from the body. Colors and patterns are the same as the Persian, in seven divisions.
Combing and shedding
The CFA says Exotics shed more than Persians, mostly seasonally, and that a weekly combing is enough for most of the year. During a heavy shed, extra combing removes the accumulated undercoat. Mats are uncommon but can occur. A comb the day before drop-off sets the cat up well.
A quiet, adaptable cat
The CFA says Exotics are quiet, loyal companions, devoted but not intrusive, endearing and easy going, and able to fit into a new home at any age. They may be initially shy with other animals. Each cat in the cattery has its own tower, so a shy Exotic can stay in a place of its own.
What a stay costs
Seven nights for one Exotic is 7 x $35 = $245 on the 2026 rates. A second Exotic from the same home is 7 x $30 = $210. Please mention any eye or breathing care when you book.
Eyes, records and food
As with Persians, eyes may need a gentle wipe, so tell us about any eye care. Rabies and FVRCP must be current through the last day. House food is pate plus chicken-and-rice kibble at no charge, and medications are given at no extra charge.
