That date, more than the cat's age, is what the records check turns on.
What FVRCP covers
FVRCP is the feline combination vaccine for three diseases: feline rhinotracheitis (a herpesvirus), calicivirus and panleukopenia, often called feline distemper. The first two are common causes of sneezing, eye and mouth trouble in cats living together. The vaccine is one of the two the kennel requires for every cat, along with rabies.
How the schedule usually runs
Kittens get a series of shots starting at several weeks of age, then a booster about a year later. After that the AAFP guidelines treat the core vaccines as a three-year interval for adult cats at low risk, and your veterinarian decides what is right for your cat. Because the interval is long, owners sometimes forget the date. The certificate or the vet's reminder card has it.
What the kennel looks at
The rule at Happy Paws is that vaccinations are up to date and will not expire during the stay. So a cat that was vaccinated two years and eleven months ago is current today, but if the certificate says it is good through the 20th and your trip runs to the 24th, the booster has to happen first. Look at the date when you book and again a month before travel.
If the date has passed
Book a veterinary visit, get the booster, and send the new record. You can upload it to your ProPetware account, email it, or hand a copy to the staff at check-in. Questions about older cats and records can go to the front desk at 707-678-6600. The FVRCP page and the kitten vaccine schedule have more on the shots themselves.
