A special diet is common, and Happy Paws plans for it. Your food is fed according to your written instructions.
How to pack it
- Keep food in its original bag, so staff can check the brand.
- Bring enough for the full stay plus a little extra.
- No need to pre-portion; write the amounts in cups, tablespoons or teaspoons.
- Tell staff about allergies on the boarding agreement.
A new bowl or a slow feeder
Leashes, bowls and balls are provided. If your pet uses a slow-feeder bowl, bring it. It is one of the few belongings worth sending, along with one toy that is not the favorite.
Mixing and switching
Changing food suddenly can upset a stomach. If you plan to try house food, ask the staff, or read the guide on switching dog food safely. First-time boarders may skip a meal or two. If a pet keeps refusing, staff offer enticing treats such as hot dogs.
Cats
Cats get canned pate and chicken-and-rice kibble if you do not bring your own. A familiar food is a comfort in an unfamiliar place, so you are welcome to bring it.
Cost comparison
Your food and the house food bill the same: the nightly rate covers either. A five-night Economy stay is 5 x $52, or $260, and a five-night Business Class stay is 5 x $59, or $295. Choose on what your pet digests best, not on cost.
