Exercise is the first thing most owners ask about when they picture a stay of a few days or a week. Here is how walking fits into a day at a country kennel on about ten acres near Dixon.
Walks cost nothing extra
Pricing at Happy Paws is all inclusive. The kennel does not charge extra for walks, special feedings or giving medication. The 2026 nightly rate for one dog is $52 in Economy, $59 in Business Class and $72 in First Class, and walking is part of that number.
A walk on the kennel's leash
Leashes are provided, so you do not need to bring one. If your dog normally wears a metal pinch collar, the staff have one on hand and will use it on request for a walk, which is why the collar should come off before check-in.
More than a walk
Each run is indoor and outdoor, with a doggie door that lets the dog choose. The kennel also has large fenced play areas and a grass field. After a stay many dogs come home tired, the way a child comes home from summer camp, and a bath may be wanted after a day of running through the grass.
Tell the staff about your dog's energy
The pet information page of the boarding agreement asks about activity level. Say whether your dog is a couch dog or needs a long outing, and mention a bite history or any worry about other dogs. Read about high-energy dogs if yours falls in that group.
Seeing it for yourself
Tours run every day from 9 to 11 AM and 2 to 4 PM with no appointment, and a staff member walks the grounds with you. Watch your step on wet concrete during cleaning.
