Napa County by the numbers

The Census counts about 134,869 people in Napa County, about 37 percent of households rent and about 29 percent have children. If national ownership shares held, about 22,600 households would have a dog and 16,000 a cat. Those are estimates, not a count.

Drive times

The kennel is about 47 minutes from American Canyon, 52 from Napa and 63 from Yountville, using Interstate 80 and Highway 12. These are free-flow times and do not include traffic. Pages for the nearest places are American Canyon, Napa and Yountville.

Wine weekends and longer trips

A weekend away means a drop-off on Friday morning and a pick-up on Sunday afternoon, which is 2 nights for a dog in a $59 run, 2 x $59 = $118. The wine weekend page covers timing and the afternoon pick-up rule. If you are flying from San Francisco or Oakland, see the SFO page and the Oakland page.

The county shelter and licensing

The Napa County Animal Shelter is at 942 Hartle Court in Napa, and appointments are required for licensing. The county licenses dogs online through DocuPet, and California law requires a license once a dog reaches four months. That rabies record is also what the kennel needs for any dog.

What your pet gets

Dogs have an indoor/outdoor run in one of three sizes, heated in winter and air-conditioned in summer, plus large fenced play areas and a grass field. Cats have individual four-level towers. Food is included, and medications are given at no extra charge. Drop-off and pick-up run 7:30 to 11:30 AM and 2:00 to 5:00 PM every day except a few holidays, so you can leave Napa after breakfast and be at the kennel before the morning window closes. The kennel confirms every reservation.

Clean and well organized, with a friendly, helpful staff. Our two pitties love their periodic "vacation" stays at Happy Paws! We live an hour away, but it's well worth the drive. Highly recommended.
