Isleton is a small Delta town in Sacramento County, and the drive to the kennel is mostly on state highways rather than freeway. It suits a kennel that is itself on country acres.

Quick facts

  • About 30 miles and 46 minutes from Isleton
  • Delta roads: Highway 160, Highway 12, then Highway 113

The Delta route to Midway Road

The routing data splits the trip into three highways: about 4.6 miles on Highway 160, about 7.8 on Highway 12 and about 17 on Highway 113 up to the Midway Road turn. Total distance is 30.2 miles, 21 miles as the crow flies, and the free-flow time is about 46 minutes.

A small share of that is slower two-lane road, so treat 46 minutes as the quickest case and leave extra time on a harvest morning.

A very small town with a pet estimate to match

Isleton has about 520 residents in about 215 households. Applying AVMA ownership shares gives a rough estimate of 100 homes with a dog and 70 with a cat. About 75 percent of homes are owner-occupied, and the median home was built in 1972.

About 23 percent of households have children under 18, and about 10 percent of adults are veterans. Those are estimates from Census surveys with a wide margin in a town this small.

Boarding for a river-town household

A weekend away or a longer trip both work. Dogs board in heated or air-conditioned indoor/outdoor runs, each with a doggie door and Kuranda bed. The Economy run is $52 a night, Business Class $59 and First Class $72 on the 2026 rates.

Cats stay in individual four-level towers for $35 a night. Rabbits, guinea pigs, birds and other small pets board too; please call for details.

Timing the trip

Check-out is by 11:30 AM, and the morning and afternoon windows are 7:30 to 11:30 and 2:00 to 5:00. Coming from Isleton, the morning window gives you the whole day ahead. Our hours page lists the few closed days.

Active military families can ask about the reduced rate, about 10 percent off, on the military rate page.

Packing light for the trip

There is very little to pack. Bring your pet, one toy that is not the favorite, and any medication in its original container. Remove metal pinch (prong) collars before check-in, and bring a slow-feeder bowl if your dog uses one. Everything else, from beds and blankets to house food, is provided. The what to bring page has the whole list.

Clean and well organized, with a friendly, helpful staff. Our two pitties love their periodic "vacation" stays at Happy Paws! We live an hour away, but it's well worth the drive. Highly recommended.

Tim N., Google review, April 2026

Just picked up my pup Loki from a 4 day stay, the staff was extremely kind and helpful. We cannot be more happy with the level of care and pictures uploaded while we were away. Loki even got a bath before pick up! Which I highly recommend. We plan to use them whenever we have the need.
