Happy Paws Kennels is about 16 minutes from the UC Davis campus, 10.5 miles by Highway 113, Interstate 80 and Hutchison Drive. Dogs stay in indoor/outdoor runs from $52 a night (2026 rates) and cats in towers at $35 a night.

Sources: U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates; OSRM routing on OpenStreetMap (free-flow, no traffic); pet households = ACS households x AVMA 2024 shares (an estimate, not a count). Drive time is free-flow and runs slow on Midway Road; allow extra time.
UC Davis is a campus, not a neighborhood, so the people who board here are students, graduate researchers, postdocs, faculty and staff, plus the parents who help them move.
The campus is the closest place to the kennel apart from Dixon itself. The route leaves along Hutchison Drive, joins Highway 113 for 5.5 miles and Interstate 80 for 3.6, and then follows the country road. It is about 16 minutes without traffic.
Quarter dates change the traffic pattern. Move-in and move-out weeks add cars on Interstate 80 and Highway 113, so give yourself extra time.
The Census counts about 8,700 people in about 1,500 households on campus, with a median age of about 19 and only 2 percent of homes owner-occupied. About two thirds of residents had moved in the past year. Those are estimates for the campus area, and national shares suggest only about 700 dog households and 500 cat households.
The Davis page covers that larger group.
Winter break is the usual boarding time. Residence halls close at noon on December 12 and reopen January 2, and the fall quarter ends December 11 with winter quarter beginning January 4, 2027 (UC Davis registrar and housing calendars, subject to change). Move-in for fall 2026 was September 15 to 17 by appointment.
Picnic Day, the annual spring open house, draws more than 70,000 people to campus; in 2026 it was held Saturday, April 18. Plan pet care for it as you would for any crowded day. See the UC Davis families page.
UC Davis has a school of veterinary medicine. If that is you, the vaccine rules are the standard list: rabies, distemper/parvo, Bordetella and canine influenza for dogs, rabies and FVRCP for cats. The vaccination page has the details.

Clean and well organized, with a friendly, helpful staff. Our two pitties love their periodic "vacation" stays at Happy Paws! We live an hour away, but it's well worth the drive. Highly recommended.
Just picked up my pup Loki from a 4 day stay, the staff was extremely kind and helpful. We cannot be more happy with the level of care and pictures uploaded while we were away. Loki even got a bath before pick up! Which I highly recommend. We plan to use them whenever we have the need.
