It added a lobby, a cattery, a meal-prep room and 50 indoor plus 50 outdoor runs in First Class and Business Class sizes, doubling the kennel's capacity. The top of the T holds the front lobby, the cattery, a training and storage room, the meal prep and feed room, a private office and a public restroom. The trunk of the T is the kennel building where the dogs stay. ## What is inside - 50 indoor and 50 outdoor kennel runs, with 25 doggie doors on each side - Ten First Class kennels, about 48 square feet inside and 72 outside - Forty Business Class kennels, about 30 square feet inside and 60 outside - A cattery with condos for cats - Heating and air conditioning, epoxy floors and fire sprinklers with a pump house and water tank ## The build, step by step - September 2020: ground broken on the new building. - March 2021: drawings, engineering and County approval complete; footings dug. - May to August 2021: 45 yards of concrete for the floors, then the kennel walls with doggie doors. - January 2022: water tank and fire-suppression pumps in; steel going up. - April to June 2022: shell enclosed, then electrical, plumbing, HVAC and drywall. - August 2022: power, water and the 50 indoor and 50 outdoor kennel runs. - October 5, 2022: open for dogs and cats. - 1971 The original kennel building is built on Midway Road, about ten country acres near Dixon. - 2008 Happy Paws Kennels opens under its current name. - Sept 2020 Ground breaks on a second building. - Aug 2021 to Aug 2022 Steel, concrete, runs, HVAC, fire sprinklers and the pump house go in. - Oct 5, 2022 The new building opens: a lobby, the cattery, a meal-prep room and 50 new indoor/outdoor runs, each with an inside and an outside side: ten First Class and forty Business Class kennels. - Today Caring for pets in Dixon since 1971, with 100 indoor/outdoor runs across both buildings. ### Sources (checked October 19, 2026) - [Happy Paws Kennels construction updates (2020-2022)](https://happypawskennels.com/construction-updates/) ### 2026 nightly rates - First Class kennel $72 - Business Class kennel $59 - Economy Class kennel $52 - Cat condo $35 All-inclusive: food, medications and walks. 2026 rates, effective for reservations made on or after Jan 1, 2026.
