The harder part of a terrier stay is the coat: wiry and double coats sit in the Medium and Extra Long or Double Coated columns of the 2024 bath chart. [Book a stay](https://happypawskennels.propetware.com/customerLogin)[Call 707-678-6600](tel:+17076786600) The American Kennel Club says terriers were first bred to go underground in pursuit of rodents and other vermin. That history shows up in a stay as quick feet, strong opinions and a wiry coat. ## Sorting terriers by weight Weights are from each breed's AKC page. Seven of the ten breeds below fit Economy; the three that reach 50 to 70 pounds fit Business Class, 5x6 feet inside with 60 square feet outside. Two terriers from the same home can share an Economy run: $52 for the first and $44 for the second on the 2026 rates. **Terrier-group breeds, AKC weights and the usual kennel** | Breed | AKC weight | Usual kennel | | --- | --- | --- | | Russell Terrier (Jack Russell) | 9 to 15 pounds | Economy | | Rat Terrier | 10 to 25 pounds | Economy | | Miniature Schnauzer | 11 to 20 pounds | Economy | | West Highland White Terrier | 15 to 20 pounds | Economy | | Scottish Terrier | 18 to 22 pounds | Economy | | Staffordshire Bull Terrier | 24 to 38 pounds | Economy | | Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier | 30 to 40 pounds | Economy | | Airedale Terrier | 50 to 70 pounds | Business Class | | Bull Terrier | 50 to 70 pounds | Business Class | | American Staffordshire Terrier | 40 to 70 pounds | Business Class | ## The wiry coat and the bath chart Many terriers have a hard, wiry outer coat over a softer undercoat. On the bath chart effective January 1, 2024, that is usually the Medium column or the Extra Long or Double Coated column. A Westie or Scottish Terrier at 16 to 25 pounds is $40 Medium or $45 double coated; a Wheaten at 26 to 50 pounds is $45 Medium. A smooth-coated Bull Terrier at 51 to 75 pounds is $40 Extra Short. A terrier that dug in a muddy yard before drop-off may come home with a bath on the bill, so please ask the front desk to quote one if you want it. Please ask to confirm today's price. **Bath chart rows terriers use, effective January 1, 2024 (please ask to confirm)** | Weight | Extra short | Short | Medium | Extra long or double | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | 15 pounds or less | $20 | $25 | $30 | $35 | | 16 to 25 pounds | $30 | $35 | $40 | $45 | | 26 to 50 pounds | $35 | $40 | $45 | $55 | | 51 to 75 pounds | $40 | $45 | $50 | $65 | ## Energy, digging and the doggie door Terriers are quick and tenacious, and the kennel is built for dogs with plans. Each run has its own doggie door and its own outside space, and walks are included. The large fenced play areas and the grass field are there for dogs with energy to burn. Some terriers, including the Staffordshire and American Staffordshire, are strong dogs that do best with a calm hand-off. Leave your dog in the car at check-in and staff walk it in. Remove any prong or choke collar before you arrive. ## More terrier-group breeds The AKC Terrier Group also includes these breeds, each with its own page: - [American Hairless Terrier](https://happypawskennels.com/breeds/american-hairless-terrier/) - [Australian Terrier](https://happypawskennels.com/breeds/australian-terrier/) - [Bedlington Terrier](https://happypawskennels.com/breeds/bedlington-terrier/) - [Border Terrier](https://happypawskennels.com/breeds/border-terrier/) - [Cairn Terrier](https://happypawskennels.com/breeds/cairn-terrier/) - [Dandie Dinmont Terrier](https://happypawskennels.com/breeds/dandie-dinmont-terrier/) - [Glen of Imaal Terrier](https://happypawskennels.com/breeds/glen-of-imaal-terrier/) - [Irish Terrier](https://happypawskennels.com/breeds/irish-terrier/) - [Kerry Blue Terrier](https://happypawskennels.com/breeds/kerry-blue-terrier/) - [Lakeland Terrier](https://happypawskennels.com/breeds/lakeland-terrier/) - [Miniature Bull Terrier](https://happypawskennels.com/breeds/miniature-bull-terrier/) - [Norfolk Terrier](https://happypawskennels.com/breeds/norfolk-terrier/) - [Norwich Terrier](https://happypawskennels.com/breeds/norwich-terrier/) - [Parson Russell Terrier](https://happypawskennels.com/breeds/parson-russell-terrier/) - [Russell Terrier](https://happypawskennels.com/breeds/russell-terrier/) - [Sealyham Terrier](https://happypawskennels.com/breeds/sealyham-terrier/) - [Skye Terrier](https://happypawskennels.com/breeds/skye-terrier/) - [Smooth Fox Terrier](https://happypawskennels.com/breeds/smooth-fox-terrier/) - [Welsh Terrier](https://happypawskennels.com/breeds/welsh-terrier/) - [Wire Fox Terrier](https://happypawskennels.com/breeds/wire-fox-terrier/) ## Summer in Dixon Dense wiry coats hold heat.
