[Book a stay](https://happypawskennels.propetware.com/customerLogin)[Call 707-678-6600](tel:+17076786600) [Usually fits an Economy Class kennel $52 a night ยท 4 x 4 ft inside](https://happypawskennels.com/dog-boarding/economy-class-kennel/) - **Weight (AKC):** 15 to 18 lb - **Kennel:** Economy Class, 4 x 4 ft - **Per night:** $52 - **Bath (2024 chart):** $25 to $35 A Smooth Fox Terrier is bigger than a Toy Fox Terrier: 15 to 18 pounds and about 15.5 inches by the AKC, with a short, smooth coat, so one fits an Economy kennel (4x4 ft, $52 a night on the 2026 rates). On the 2024 bath chart a short coat is $25 at 15 pounds or less and $35 at 16 to 25. The AKC calls the Smooth Fox Terrier lively and gregarious, with a devil-may-care attitude, bred for British foxhunts and closely related to the Wire Fox Terrier. It looks like a Toy Fox Terrier with more of everything. ## Heavier than a Toy A Toy Fox Terrier weighs 4 to 9 pounds. A Smooth is 15 to 17 pounds for a female and 18 for a male, so it sits in the second bath row, not the first. Economy is the right kennel, about 16 square feet inside plus 48 outside, and a Kuranda bed. Two Smooths from one home can share for $52 and $44. ## Smooth coat The AKC lists a short, smooth coat with occasional shedding. A female of 15 pounds is in the 15 or less row at $25 Short, and most are in the 16 to 25 row at $35. A very sleek coat may be Extra Short, $20 and $30 in those rows. Please ask to confirm. ## Lively, gregarious, loud The AKC lists frequent barking. A Smooth Fox Terrier tells the building when something happens. Walks are included, and the large fenced play areas and the grass field are where a hunting terrier spends energy. ## Thin coat, two seasons A smooth coat has little insulation. The runs are heated in winter and every run has blankets. In summer, NOAA's Vacaville station records about 100 days a year at 90 degrees or more, and the air-conditioned inside half is the place to rest. ## Cost and records Four nights in Economy is 4 x $52 on the 2026 rates, and a stay of 14 nights or more is $47 a night. Rabies, distemper/parvo, Bordetella and canine influenza must be current. Medications are given at no extra charge. ## Before you book Tours run every day from 9 to 11 AM and 2 to 4 PM with no appointment. Online booking is a request that the kennel confirms. Leave your terrier in the car at check-in; staff carry the bag and walk your dog in. ### Sources (checked October 19, 2026) - [American Kennel Club - Smooth Fox Terrier breed page](https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/smooth-fox-terrier/) - [Happy Paws Kennels 2026 rate sheet (PDF)](https://happypawskennels.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2026-Rates-EFFECTIVE-1-1-26.pdf) - [Happy Paws Kennels bathing rates effective January 1, 2024](https://happypawskennels.com/rates/) - [NOAA NCEI U.S. Climate Normals 1991-2020](https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/data/normals-monthly/1991-2020/access/) ### 2026 nightly rates - First Class kennel $72 - Business Class kennel $59 - Economy Class kennel $52 - Cat condo $35 All-inclusive: food, medications and walks. 2026 rates, effective for reservations made on or after Jan 1, 2026.
