Two small dogs from one home can share it for $52 plus $44, and the first rows of the 2024 bath chart start at $20. Here is how a small dog's stay is set up. ## Which kennel fits a small dog Economy is the right size for most dogs under 25 pounds: about 16 square feet inside and 48 outside, with a Kuranda bed and a blanket. The kennel describes it as suited to several small or medium dogs or one large dog, so a pair of small dogs from the same home fit easily. The first dog is $52 a night and the second is $44 on the 2026 rates. A whole litter of Chihuahuas can use a First Class kennel. Every dog has its own run. Dogs see their neighbors through the fence but have their own space. ## Breeds that land in this group The American Kennel Club lists these breeds at or near the small-dog range. Weights come from each breed's AKC page. Mixes vary, so weigh your dog on a scale before you book. **Small breeds and their AKC weights** | Breed | AKC weight | | --- | --- | | Chihuahua | not over 6 pounds | | Pomeranian | 3 to 7 pounds | | Yorkshire Terrier | 7 pounds | | Maltese | under 7 pounds | | Papillon | 5 to 10 pounds | | Havanese | 7 to 13 pounds | | Shih Tzu | 9 to 16 pounds | | Pug | 14 to 18 pounds | | Bichon Frise | 12 to 18 pounds | | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | 13 to 18 pounds | ## Bath rows for small dogs The 2024 bath chart has two rows for small dogs. Extra short is a smooth coat like a Boxer's, short is a Labrador-type coat, medium is a Shepherd-type coat, and the last column is for extra long or double coats. Please ask to confirm today's price. Most small dogs fall into the medium or long columns, because the popular small breeds are silky or curly. **Bath chart effective January 1, 2024 (please ask to confirm)** | Weight | Extra short | Short | Medium | Extra long or double | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | 15 pounds or less | $20 | $25 | $30 | $35 | | 16 to 25 pounds | $30 | $35 | $40 | $45 | ## Warmth, nerves and noise Small dogs lose heat faster, so the heated runs in winter and the blanket matter. In summer, nearby Vacaville, the closest weather station, averages about 100 days a year at 90 degrees or more. The runs are air-conditioned, and your dog chooses inside or out through the doggie door. A nervous small dog does best with a calm hand-off. Leave your pet in the car at check-in and staff carry the belongings and walk your dog in. On hot pavement, staff may scoop a small dog up and hurry. One toy from home is plenty. ## Feeding a small dog House food is grain-free kibble plus wet food, farm-fresh eggs, hot dogs and treats, at no charge. Small dogs on a special diet can bring their own food in its original bag, with the amount written in cups. Medications are given at no extra charge. ### Sources (checked October 19, 2026) - [American Kennel Club - Chihuahua breed page](https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/chihuahua/) - [American Kennel Club - Pug breed page](https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/pug/) - [American Kennel Club - Shih Tzu breed page](https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/shih-tzu/) - [Happy Paws Kennels 2026 rate sheet (PDF)](https://happypawskennels.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2026-Rates-EFFECTIVE-1-1-26.pdf) - [Happy Paws Kennels bathing rates effective January 1, 2024](https://happypawskennels.com/rates/) - [NOAA NCEI U.S. Climate Normals 1991-2020](https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/data/normals-monthly/1991-2020/access/) ### 2026 nightly rates - First Class kennel $72 - Business Class kennel $59 - Economy Class kennel $52 - Cat condo $35 All-inclusive: food, medications and walks. 2026 rates, effective for reservations made on or after Jan 1, 2026.
