[Book a stay](https://happypawskennels.propetware.com/customerLogin)[Call 707-678-6600](tel:+17076786600) [Usually fits a First Class kennel $72 a night ยท 6 x 8 ft inside](https://happypawskennels.com/dog-boarding/first-class-kennel/) - **Weight (AKC):** 100 to 150 lb - **Kennel:** First Class, 6 x 8 ft - **Per night:** $72 - **Bath (2024 chart):** $85 The AKC lists a Newfoundland at 28 inches (male) and 26 inches (female) and 130 to 150 pounds for males and 100 to 120 for females, so one fits a First Class kennel (6x8 ft, $72 a night on the 2026 rates). On the bath chart effective January 1, 2024, the extra long or double coated column is $85 at over 100 pounds; please ask to confirm. A Newfoundland is one of the biggest dogs that comes through a kennel gate, and the AKC says a female can run 100 to 120 pounds. The run is the first thing to get right. ## Why a Newf takes the biggest run At 100 to 150 pounds and up to 28 inches at the shoulder, a Newfoundland needs room to turn around, stretch out and lie flat. First Class is the kennel built for extra large dogs: 6x8 ft, about 48 square feet inside plus 72 outside, with a Kuranda bed and blankets. Two Newfs from the same home can share it; the second is $61 a night on the 2026 rates. ## Coat and baths The AKC describes the outer coat as flat and coarse, and its characteristics list marks the coat as medium length, double and seasonal shedding. A big double-coated dog is the case the bath chart's last column was made for. On the bath chart effective January 1, 2024, over 100 pounds in the extra long or double coated column is $85; please ask to confirm. ## Temperament and a gentle stay The AKC calls the breed sweet-tempered, patient and watchful, and the breed standard names a sweet temperament as the most important single characteristic. Newfs are described as trusting and trainable and responding to gentle guidance. For a stay that means a calm dog who wants company more than a workout; the walks that are included and the large fenced play areas suit that pace. ## Heat, cold and the run A Newfoundland carries a heavy coat built for cold water, so a Central Valley summer is the hardest part of the stay. The runs are air-conditioned in summer, and your dog chooses between inside and out through the doggie door. Most Newfs will pick the cool floor of the indoor side on a hot afternoon, and that is the right call. ## A long stay with a Newfoundland Giant breeds often come for the longer trips, and the rate sheet rewards that. A First Class kennel drops from $72 to $65 a night at 14 or more nights, so a 14 night stay is 14 x $65 = $910 on the 2026 rates, with the balance due at pick-up. Stays over four weeks move to a card on file charged every two weeks in advance. ## Check-in with 150 pounds of dog Leave your Newfoundland in the car when you arrive. Staff carry belongings and walk your dog in, and on hot pavement they may scoop and hurry. Bring the vaccine records for rabies, distemper/parvo, Bordetella and canine influenza, good through the last day of the stay, and remove any metal pinch (prong) collar. Medications are given at no extra charge. ### Sources (checked October 19, 2026) - [American Kennel Club - Newfoundland breed page](https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/newfoundland/) - [Happy Paws Kennels 2026 rate sheet (PDF)](https://happypawskennels.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2026-Rates-EFFECTIVE-1-1-26.pdf) - [Happy Paws Kennels bathing rates effective January 1, 2024](https://happypawskennels.com/rates/) - [NOAA NCEI U.S. Climate Normals 1991-2020](https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/data/normals-monthly/1991-2020/access/) ### 2026 nightly rates - First Class kennel $72 - Business Class kennel $59 - Economy Class kennel $52 - Cat condo $35 All-inclusive: food, medications and walks. 2026 rates, effective for reservations made on or after Jan 1, 2026.
