[Book a stay](https://happypawskennels.propetware.com/customerLogin)[Call 707-678-6600](tel:+17076786600) [Usually fits a Business Class kennel $59 a night ยท 5 x 6 ft inside](https://happypawskennels.com/dog-boarding/business-class-kennel/) - **Weight (AKC):** 45 to 70 lb - **Kennel:** Business Class, 5 x 6 ft - **Per night:** $59 - **Bath (2024 chart):** $40 to $45 A German Shorthaired Pointer is a medium-large dog, 45 to 70 pounds by the AKC, with a short, dense coat, so one fits a Business Class kennel (5x6 ft, $59 a night on the 2026 rates). On the 2024 bath chart a short coat is $40 at 26 to 50 pounds and $45 at 51 to 75. The GSP is the breed you plan the stay around. AKC says it thrives on vigorous exercise, and gives it a 5 of 5 on energy. A boarding week suits a dog like that if there is plenty of room and plenty to do. ## The right kennel Males run 23 to 25 inches and 55 to 70 pounds, females 21 to 23 inches and 45 to 60. Business Class gives one GSP about 30 square feet inside and 60 outside, enough to turn, stretch and trot. A female who is calm could manage in Economy, but an athletic dog has more room to move in Business. ## Short coat, quick bath The short coat is easy: the Short column at $40 (26 to 50 pounds) or $45 (51 to 75) on the 2024 chart. Gundogs come home muddy and burr-covered from a weekend afield; a bath before pick-up helps. Ask to confirm. ## Burning energy A GSP is a gundog of all trades, in the words of the AKC. Daily walks are included, and the large fenced areas and grass field give room to run. Expect a tired, hungry dog on the ride home. The house grain-free kibble is free; if yours eats a performance diet, send it in the original bag with amounts in cups. ## Hot afternoons The thin short coat offers little insulation either way, but the heated runs in winter and the air-conditioned runs in summer keep the dog comfortable. A hunting dog should not run hard in 95 degrees, so the cool hours are when active play happens. ## Hunting season and travel If your dates fall within 7 days of a major holiday, a holiday deposit applies (50 percent, due 30 days before drop-off, on the 2026 sheet), so please call to confirm. The holiday boarding page has the windows. ## Stay costs One GSP in Business Class for a week is 7 x $59 = $413 on the 2026 rates; at 14 nights or more the rate becomes $53. Day care is $38 for a day out on the field, and the 10-day package gets 12 days. ## Burrs and ticks A dog that comes from a field should arrive free of fleas and ticks, since a dog found with them is bathed at the owner's cost. Give your dog a once-over before the drive. ### Sources (checked October 19, 2026) - [American Kennel Club - German Shorthaired Pointer breed page](https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/german-shorthaired-pointer/) - [Happy Paws Kennels 2026 rate sheet (PDF)](https://happypawskennels.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2026-Rates-EFFECTIVE-1-1-26.pdf) - [Happy Paws Kennels bathing rates effective January 1, 2024](https://happypawskennels.com/rates/) - [NOAA NCEI U.S. Climate Normals 1991-2020](https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/data/normals-monthly/1991-2020/access/) ### 2026 nightly rates - First Class kennel $72 - Business Class kennel $59 - Economy Class kennel $52 - Cat condo $35 All-inclusive: food, medications and walks. 2026 rates, effective for reservations made on or after Jan 1, 2026.
