The Cat Fanciers' Association calls it a playful, affectionate lap cat and a 100% domestic breed nicknamed the parlor panther. [Book a stay](https://happypawskennels.propetware.com/customerLogin)[Call 707-678-6600](tel:+17076786600) Compared with the [Burmese](https://happypawskennels.com/breeds/cats/burmese/), one of its parents, the Bombay has the jet-black patent-leather coat and a more mischievous streak around toys. ## How a Bombay differs from a Burmese The CFA says Nikki Horner created the Bombay in Kentucky in 1966 by crossing an American Shorthair with a Burmese, and that it blends the easygoing American Shorthair temperament with the lap-loving Burmese nature. Its look is a miniature panther with black coat and gold-to-copper eyes. The CFA describes energy as neither hyperactive nor placid, so expect a cat that plays and then settles. ## Wash-and-wear coat The short, dense coat has a patent-leather sheen, and the CFA says shedding is moderate to minimal, with a rubber curry brush two or three times a month usually enough. The CFA calls Bombays wash-and-wear. It also notes the eyes tend to tear, so wipe them gently before drop-off and tell the staff if your cat needs this routine. ## Toys, boxes and snuggles The CFA lists Bombays as fond of toys and of paper or cardboard containers, and known for head-butts, kisses and snuggling at night. A cattery tower with four levels and a blanket gives a snuggler a place to curl. Bring one familiar toy. ## Rates at a glance One cat is $35 a night on the 2026 rates, so six nights is 6 x $35 = $210. A second cat sharing the condo is $30 a night, and cat day care is $25 a day. The nightly fee runs to the 11:30 AM check-out, and an afternoon pick-up is half of the nightly fee. ## Health notes to share The CFA says the breed is fairly healthy and that hypertrophic cardiomyopathy has been found in it, which is why responsible breeders test cats before breeding. If your Bombay takes any medication, it is given at no extra charge.
