[Book a stay](https://happypawskennels.propetware.com/customerLogin)[Call 707-678-6600](tel:+17076786600) [Usually fits a Business Class kennel $59 a night ยท 5 x 6 ft inside](https://happypawskennels.com/dog-boarding/business-class-kennel/) - **Weight (AKC):** 45 to 75 lb - **Height (AKC):** 22 to 26 in - **Kennel:** Business Class, 5 x 6 ft - **Per night:** $59 - **Bath (2024 chart):** $40 to $65 A Belgian Tervuren has the Malinois build with a long coat: 22 to 26 inches and 45 to 75 pounds by the AKC, so one fits a Business Class kennel (5x6 ft, $59 a night on the 2026 rates). On the 2024 bath chart the Extra Long or Double Coated column is $55 at 26 to 50 pounds and $65 at 51 to 75, well above the $40 to $45 a short-coated Malinois pays. The difference from a [Malinois](https://happypawskennels.com/breeds/belgian-malinois/) is all in the coat. The Tervuren's guard hairs are long, straight and abundant over a very dense undercoat, in rich fawn to russet mahogany with a black overlay, and that changes the bath, the brushing and the afternoon plan. ## Same frame, different bath column The standard gives an ideal height of 24 to 26 inches for males and 22 to 24 for females, square in outline, with medium bone. The AKC weight chart lists 45 to 75 pounds. That is Business Class, about 30 square feet inside plus 60 outside, the same as a Malinois. Two Tervurens from one home pay $59 plus $50 there, or take First Class if both are large. The coat is where the two breeds part: on the bath chart effective January 1, 2024 the long double coat belongs in the Extra Long or Double Coated column, $55 for a 26 to 50 pound dog and $65 for 51 to 75. Please ask to confirm the price. ## What the coat does The standard calls the breed particularly adaptable to extremes of temperature or climate. Guard hairs are long, close-fitting and straight, with a texture of medium harshness, never silky or wiry, over a very dense undercoat. Shedding is heavy at the change of season, so brush before drop-off. A field walk can pack the ruff with burrs and dirt, and a bath before pick-up is available on request. ## Watchful, athletic, sensitive The standard describes a dog that is observant and vigilant with strangers but not apprehensive, and does not show fear or shyness. Give the staff a candid picture of your dog on a leash, with strangers and near other dogs. The grass field and large fenced play areas are where a herding dog can run, and walks are included in the nightly rate. ## Summer in the Central Valley The NOAA Vacaville station (1991-2020 normals) records about 100 days a year at 90 degrees or more. A long double coat holds that heat, so the air-conditioned inside half of the run is where a Tervuren belongs in the afternoon. The doggie door lets your dog choose. The AKC standard calls the breed adaptable to extremes of temperature. ## What a stay costs A week in Business Class is 7 x $59 = $413 on the 2026 rates, or 14 nights at $53 = $742 from the long-stay rate. Active military pay that same reduced rate; the rate sheet does not list the two as stacking. Medications are free. ### Sources (checked October 19, 2026) - [American Kennel Club - Belgian Tervuren breed page](https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/belgian-tervuren/) - [American Kennel Club - Official Standard of the Belgian Tervuren](https://images.akc.org/pdf/breeds/standards/BelgianTervuren.pdf) - [American Kennel Club - Breed Weight Chart](https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/nutrition/breed-weight-chart/) - [Happy Paws Kennels 2026 rate sheet (PDF)](https://happypawskennels.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2026-Rates-EFFECTIVE-1-1-26.pdf) - [Happy Paws Kennels bathing rates effective January 1, 2024](https://happypawskennels.com/rates/) ### 2026 nightly rates - First Class kennel $72 - Business Class kennel $59 - Economy Class kennel $52 - Cat condo $35 All-inclusive: food, medications and walks. 2026 rates, effective for reservations made on or after Jan 1, 2026. Call [707-678-6600](tel:+17076786600) (every day 7:30-11:30 AM and 2-5 PM) or see the [boarding FAQ](https://happypawskennels.com/faq/). ### Is a Tervuren a Malinois? No. They share a build and a size range, but the Tervuren has a long double coat and the Malinois a short one, so the bath cell is different. ### Will the coat need to be shaved? No. The AKC standard treats the double coat as part of the breed's climate adaptation. ### Can two Tervurens share a run? If they come from the same home: Business Class $59 for the first and $50 for the second, or First Class for two large dogs.
