[Book a stay](https://happypawskennels.propetware.com/customerLogin)[Call 707-678-6600](tel:+17076786600) - **Weight (AKC):** 40 to 70 lb - **Height (AKC):** 17 to 19 in - **Kennel:** Business Class, 5 x 6 ft - **Per night:** $59 The AKC lists the American Staffordshire Terrier at 17 to 19 inches and 40 to 55 pounds for females and 55 to 70 pounds for males, so one dog fits a Business Class kennel (5x6 ft inside plus an outside run, $59 a night on the 2026 rates). AmStaffs are stocky, muscular bull-type terriers, and the AKC calls them smart, confident and good-natured companions whose courage is proverbial. ## Business Class for a bull-type terrier A dog at the upper end of the AKC range has real weight behind it. Business Class gives that body room to turn, stretch and settle, with a Kuranda bed and blankets in the run. The run has an inside and an outside half, so he can stand in the sun or rest in the shade as he likes. A female at the low end of the range may do fine in Economy at $52 a night. Ask us when you book and we will help you choose. ## Challenges, not just a yard The AKC says AmStaffs like mental and physical challenges, are highly trainable, and take part in sports such as obedience, agility and dock diving. It also says leaving the dog out in the yard all day is not the right approach: an AmStaff is people-oriented and thrives when he is part of the family. For a boarding stay, that points to attention and activity. Walks are included, and the large fenced play areas have ramps and tunnels. Send one toy from home, and tell us the words and cues he knows. ## Short, stiff and glossy The AKC calls the coat short and stiff and glossy, and says a weekly once-over with a soft bristle brush is usually enough. A bath can wait until he gets into something messy or develops a doggy smell. Our bath chart effective January 1, 2024 names the pit bull as an example of the extra short column. That column is $35 at 26 to 50 pounds and $40 at 51 to 75 pounds. The 2026 sheet says please ask for baths, so we ask you to confirm. See [baths](https://happypawskennels.com/baths/). ## Check-in and leash handling Given the AmStaff's strong will, strength and exuberance, the AKC says early socialization and puppy training classes are a necessity. At the kennel, a snug flat collar or harness and a calm hand-off make drop-off easy; any metal pinch (prong) collar must come off first. All breeds are welcome, neutered or intact, as long as the vaccinations are current: rabies, distemper/parvo, Bordetella and canine influenza, and pets must be 16 weeks or older. The runs are heated in winter and air conditioned inside in summer, and the doggie door lets him choose between inside and outside. ## Pricing for the stay Business Class is $59 a night, so 5 nights is $295 and 7 nights is $413. At 14 nights or more the rate is $53 a night, which comes to $742 for 14. Active military pay that same $53 rate; the rate sheet does not list the discounts as combining, so call 707-678-6600 to confirm. A second dog from the same home in the run is $50 a night.
