Drive time is free-flow and runs slow on Midway Road; allow extra time. Clarksburg is a Delta town of 85 households and a wine-growing district. It is 14.8 miles from the kennel as the crow flies but 37 by road, because the route goes around the river and through Sacramento's edge. ## Quick facts - About 37.1 miles and 51 minutes - Five road names in one trip - 85 households, 73 percent renters - Estimated 40 dog homes and 30 cat homes ## Why the road is so much longer than the map The straight-line distance is 14.8 miles, but the routing needs 3.9 miles on County Road E9, 3.3 on US 50, 7.1 on I-5, 15.7 on I-80 and 4.1 on Highway 113, for 37.1 miles in all. Free-flow time is about 51 minutes. Plan for a long first trip, and consider a tour day. ## A very small place Clarksburg has 288 people and 85 households. About 73 percent rent, the median gross rent is $2,545, and the median home was built in 1951. About 13 percent of households have children, and 31 percent moved in the past year. The AVMA model gives about 40 dog homes and 30 cat homes, a tiny and uncertain estimate. ## The wine-growing district Clarksburg is best known for its wine country. The Old Sugar Mill, a beet sugar factory founded in 1934 that closed in 1993, now holds a dozen or more winery tasting rooms, according to CapRadio. Owners who work in the wine trade, or who host visitors during harvest, may need a place for dogs during harvest. Cats and dogs both board on the same ten acres. ## Pricing a harvest-season stay A 10-night Business Class stay for one dog is 10 x $59 = $590 on the 2026 rates. The reduced rate begins with the 14th night. A cat condo is $35 a night. Our two pitties love their periodic "vacation" stays at Happy Paws! We live an hour away, but it's well worth the drive. Highly recommended. Tim N., Google review, April 2026 Just picked up my pup Loki from a 4 day stay, the staff was extremely kind and helpful. We cannot be more happy with the level of care and pictures uploaded while we were away. Loki even got a bath before pick up! Which I highly recommend. We plan to use them whenever we have the need.
