# Accessibility Statement

Effective: October 20, 2026

Happy Paws Kennels ("Happy Paws," "we," "us" or "our") wants this website (the "Site") to be usable by as many people as possible, including people with disabilities, and wants every pet owner to be able to get the information and help they need. This Accessibility Statement describes what we have done, what we know still needs work and how to reach us.

## 1. Our commitment

Finding out how boarding works, what our kennel classes include and how to ask about your dates should be easy for everyone.

Whatever the Site can or cannot do, our team can help you by telephone, by email or in person at the kennel.

## 2. Our standard

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG defines how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities and is organized around four principles: content should be perceivable, operable, understandable and robust.

## 3. Conformance status

We are working toward conformance with WCAG 2.2 Level AA, and we describe the Site as partially conformant. "Partially conformant" means that some parts of the content may not fully conform to the standard. The parts most likely not to conform are content provided by third parties and the limitations described in Section 10. We correct issues as we learn about them.

This status is based on our own evaluation, described in Section 9. It is not a certification by any third party.

## 4. Measures we have taken

The Site was built with accessibility in mind. The measures we have taken include the following.

Structure and navigation:

- Semantic HTML, so that headings, lists, buttons, links, tables and forms are identified correctly to browsers and assistive technologies.
- Page landmarks, such as the header, navigation, main content and footer, so that screen-reader users can move directly to each part of a page.
- A "Skip to content" link at the start of every page, so that keyboard and screen-reader users can bypass the menu.
- A logical heading structure on each page and breadcrumb links on inner pages.
- A site map page that lists the pages of the Site in plain text links.

Keyboard access and focus:

- Menus that work with a keyboard, so keyboard users do not have to rely on a mouse hover.
- The Escape key closes open menus, the chat window and the before-you-go pop-up.
- Focus management in pop-ups. When one opens, keyboard focus moves into it, and when it closes, focus returns to where you were.
- A visible focus indicator, so that keyboard users can see which link, button or field is selected.

Forms, tools and messages:

- Clear labels on form fields, including the Ask about your dates and tour request forms.
- Error messages in plain words that are announced to screen readers, so you know what to fix.
- Status messages, such as "Sending...," announced to screen readers.
- Human verification that runs in the background. Our forms are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which is invisible and usually confirms that you are a person without asking you to solve a puzzle. If it stops you from sending a form, please call us instead.
- A chat window with a labeled message box.

Images, tables, color and layout:

- Text alternatives (alt text) for meaningful images.
- Rates published as real text and tables on our [rates page](https://happypawskennels.com/rates/), not as pictures of price sheets.
- Color contrast between text and backgrounds designed to meet WCAG AA.
- A responsive layout that adapts to phones, tablets and desktops and supports browser zoom and larger text.
- Respect for your device's reduced-motion setting, which turns off smooth scrolling and animations.
- Our address, telephone number and hours as text on the Site, in addition to the map.

## 5. The accessibility menu

The Site includes an accessibility menu, labeled "Accessibility managed by ADAWebPro," available from the accessibility button on every page. It lets you adjust how the Site looks and behaves to suit your needs. Its features include:

- Accessibility profiles, which apply a group of settings at once.
- Text size adjustment.
- Line height, letter spacing and word spacing adjustment.
- A dyslexia-friendly font.
- A reading guide, which helps you keep your place on the page.
- Read aloud (text-to-speech) for the page or for selected text, using your browser's built-in speech feature.
- High contrast mode and inverted colors.
- Low and high color saturation and color-blind filters.
- Underlined links and highlighted links.
- A big cursor.
- Stop animations.
- Hide images.
- Form assistance.
- A reset button that returns every setting to its default.

Your settings stay in your browser. The settings you choose are saved only in your browser's local storage, so they apply on other pages and later visits in the same browser. They are not sent to us. Clearing your browser's storage resets them. Our [Privacy Policy](https://happypawskennels.com/privacy-policy/) explains browser storage.

Your own tools come first. The accessibility menu is an optional convenience. It does not replace the accessibility built into the Site, and you do not need it to use the Site. The Site is designed to work with the tools you already use, such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, voice control, browser zoom and operating-system display settings.

## 6. Using the Site with a keyboard

You can use the Site without a mouse. Common keys include:

- Tab moves forward through links, buttons and form fields, and Shift+Tab moves backward.
- Enter activates a link or button, and the Space bar activates buttons and ticks packing list boxes.
- Escape closes an open menu, the chat window or the before-you-go pop-up.
- In the chat, Enter sends your message.
- The "Skip to content" link, at the start of each page, moves you past the menu to the main content.

## 7. Compatibility with browsers and assistive technology

The Site is designed to be compatible with current versions of Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari on desktop and mobile devices, and with common screen readers used with those browsers. If a combination of browser and assistive technology does not work well with the Site, please tell us.

## 8. Technologies the Site relies on

The accessibility of the Site relies on the following technologies working with your web browser and any assistive technologies installed on your device:

- HTML
- CSS
- JavaScript
- WAI-ARIA

The core content of each page, including our rates, is delivered as HTML, so the text is available even if scripts do not run. Some interactive features, such as the menus, the chat, the accessibility menu, the before-you-go pop-up, the human-verification check and the forms' sending step, require JavaScript. If a feature does not work for you, you can call or email us instead.

## 9. How we assess accessibility

Accessibility of the Site is assessed through self-evaluation by our web development service provider during development, including keyboard checks of the menus, forms, chat and pop-up, and checks at large text sizes on phone-width screens. We have not commissioned a formal audit by an independent third party. As the Site changes, we review new and updated content with accessibility in mind and correct issues as we find them or as visitors report them.

## 10. Known limitations and alternatives

We know about these limitations and offer these alternatives:

- Our address, 6677 Midway Road, Dixon, CA 95620, and directions are written out in text on the Site; the map loads only when you click "Show the map."
- Date fields use your browser's own date picker, which works differently in each browser. You may also type the date or tell us in the notes box.
- The stay-cost Estimator gives an estimate only. You can always call us for a quote based on the [rate sheet](https://happypawskennels.com/rates/).
- Our booking page at ProPetware is a third-party service that we do not control. If you cannot use it, call us and we will help you directly.
- Linked websites, such as Google Maps, Facebook, Yelp and other review platforms, are not controlled by us.

## 11. Third-party content

Some content and features on the Site are provided by third parties, including Google Maps, Cloudflare Turnstile, ProPetware, and the review platforms and other websites we link to. We configure these tools as accessibly as we can, but we do not control how they are built and cannot guarantee their conformance. If a third-party component prevents you from using the Site, please tell us and we will help you directly.

## 12. Other ways to get information and help

If any information on the Site is not accessible to you, we will provide it another way at no charge. For example, we can:

- Answer your questions over the telephone at (707) 678-6600, including how boarding works, our kennel classes, rates and vaccination requirements.
- Take your request for dates over the telephone, so that you do not need to use a form.
- Email you information as plain text.
- Help you in person at the kennel during drop-off and pick-up hours, every day 7:30 to 11:30 AM and 2:00 to 5:00 PM.

At the kennel, please let our team know if you need help, more time, or information read aloud or explained another way.

## 13. Feedback and requests for help

We welcome feedback on the accessibility of the Site. If you encounter a barrier, have trouble using any part of the Site or have a suggestion, please contact us:

- Telephone: (707) 678-6600, during our hours.
- Email: HappyPawsKennels_Dixon@yahoo.com, with the subject line "Accessibility."
- Mail: Happy Paws Kennels, 6677 Midway Road, Dixon, CA 95620.
- Online: the form on our [contact page](https://happypawskennels.com/contact/).

What to include. To help us understand and fix the problem, please tell us the address (URL) of the page, what you were trying to do, the problem you had and, if you are comfortable sharing it, the browser, device and assistive technology you were using, and how you would like us to respond. You do not need to provide all of this to get help.

Response time. We aim to respond to accessibility feedback promptly. If you need information right away, please call us during our hours.

## 14. Legal framework

Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act and California law, including the Unruh Civil Rights Act (California Civil Code section 51), address equal access to places of public accommodation and business establishments. We refer to WCAG 2.2 Level AA as the technical standard that guides our efforts on the Site. This Statement describes our goals and practices. It is not a legal opinion about what any law requires and does not create contractual obligations. Nothing in it limits any right you have under applicable law.

## 15. Ongoing effort and review of this Statement

Accessibility is an ongoing effort. Websites, technologies and standards change. We review the Site as it changes, correct issues as we find them or as they are reported, and update this Statement when our practices or the Site change. This Statement was last reviewed and updated on the effective date shown at the top of this page. See also our [Terms of Use](https://happypawskennels.com/terms/).
